چکیده
A 67-year-old man had presented 7 months earlier with complaints of flushing, diarrhea and tiredness. Etiologic investigation diagnosedmetastaticmidgut neuroendocrine carcinoid tumor for which he had trans-arterial embolization and started monthly sandostatin. In follow-up, he developed progressive exertional dyspnea and was referred for carcinoid heart screen. On physical examination there were systolic and early diastolic right-sided murmurs, increased jugular venous pressure with prominent v wave and pitting peripheral edema. Bidimensional transthoracic echocardiography showed hypomobile fibrotic tricuspid leaflets that resulted in incomplete coaptation and severe regurgitation. The pulmonary valve was not clearly visualized but there was evidence of moderate regurgitation and mild stenosis. Three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography using volume-rendered imaging provided global simultaneous assessment of the three tricuspid leaflets, which were thickened,

Features of carcinoid heart disease identified by 2- and 3-dimensional echocardiography and cardiac MRI.
BACKGROUND Carcinoid heart disease is a rare form of valvular heart disease. We sought describe the spectrum of carcinoid heart disease identified by echocardiography and cardiac MRI. METHOD AND RESULTS Two hundred fifty-two patients with carcinoid syndrome underwent a range of investigations including 2D transthoracic echocardiography, 3D transthoracic echocardiography and transesophageal ec...
متن کاملHeart Carcinoid Disease with Patent Foramen Ovale Treated by Mini Sternotomy
This case report was an attempt to present the importance of diagnostic echocardiography and closure of a patent foramen ovale in carcinoid heart disease. Herein, we present a case of a 48-year-old woman with a carcinoid metastasis presenting with tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonic stenosis, patent foramen ovale, and borderline left ventricular ejection fraction on an echocardiogram. Surgical in...
متن کاملEchocardiographic imaging of tricuspid and pulmonary valve abnormalities in primary ovarian carcinoid tumor
Carcinoid is a rare malignancy originating from enterochromaffin cells and is clinically characterized by flushing, diarrhea and bronchospasm, due to secretion of vasoactive substances. A dreaded complication is carcinoid heart disease, which mainly affects right cardiac chambers, resulting in thickened, immobile and retracted tricuspid and pulmonary valves. In the current report, a case of a 6...
متن کامل[Carcinoid heart - case report].
We describe the case of a 76-year-old woman, diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor of the cecum in 2004, with liver metastases and carcinoid syndrome since September 2010. The patient had been treated intermittently with chemotherapy cycles, and remained symptomatic, with worsening secondary lesions. In June 2011 she began to present signs and symptoms of right heart failure and was hospitalize...
متن کاملCarcinoid heart disease: diagnosis by two-dimensional echocardiography.
We prospectively studied 14 patients with the carcinoid syndrome to determine if two-dimensional echocardiography could detect the nature and extent of valvular abnormalities. Eight of the 14 patients had definite abnormalities of the right-sided cardiac valves. The tricuspid valve had a characteristic appearance, similar to previously described pathologic findings. The leaflets appeared diffus...
